Bowman Field Flying Club
Our Story
The Club at Bowman has undergone many evolutions over the years, but it basically started as a group of people that got together because they needed a place to keep their planes. Over the years it has grown into a club of roughly 35 members, of which approximately 20 are active pilots who own aircraft. Today's club manages the day to day operations of the field. As a team they are responsible for the building maintenance, mowing and maintaining the field in the grass months, and rolling the runway in the winter months. Along with the necessary house-keeping duties the club is also responsible for all the logistics that go into hosting two annual fly-ins. The summer fly-in, which is always the last full weekend in August, has been hosted for 30+ years; only being cancelled one year in 2020 due to Covid. The winter fly-in, affectionately dubbed the ski-plane fly-in, has been hosted for 10+ years. Over those 10+ years it has seen varying degrees of success due to Mother's Natures whims, but is always a fun day regardless. The club is a dedicated group of aviation enthusiasts that consist of both pilots and non-pilots. The commonality that holds the club together is their love and desire to keep general aviation and the small grass strips active in Maine.
